Broughton Astley Gardeners Association
Broughton Astley Gardeners Association (BAGA) is one of the oldest clubs and societies in the village, dating back to at least 1924. The Association is based at the Western Willows Allotment site on Broughton Way, but membership (currently standing at more than 250) is not restricted to allotment holders. BAGA is run for the benefit of everyone in and around Broughton Astley with an interest in gardening.

BAGA organises the annual Village Show, held every August Bank Holiday at the Village Hall. This year‘s event, to be held on Saturday 27 August 2011, is the 87th Show. The Show is an open event which means you do not have to be a member to enter. Why not get into the spirit of the day and enter an exhibit yourself? There are many classes including cookery, homecraft, flower arranging and a children’s section so you have plenty of options from which to choose. Look out for notices advertising the next event nearer to the day or contact Christine Rowe (on 01455 284718) for a Show schedule.

Finances for the running of the Show come simply from monies taken on the day, plus the profits from sales made at the BAGA Trading Hut and BAGA‘s Annual Bedding Plant Sale which takes place in May each year.
Please watch for more details on the Parish Council noticeboards or in Broughton Matters and come along and select from a wide variety of bedding plants at very competitive prices.

The Trading Hut at Western Willows offers an increasing range of goods and services and is open every Sunday from 10 am to 12 am from February through to the end of September, and then on the first Sunday of each month for the remainder of the year. If you are not a regular visitor please call in any Sunday, have a look around, pick up a price list, and see for yourself just how varied and competitive the stock really is! You can get loose chemicals, organics, composts, peat, seeds, fertilizers, and a very popular range of wild bird feed including nyjer seed, fat balls, sunflower seed and peanuts. The Association also has several items of gardening equipment including a garden vac, hedge cutter, rotavator, shredder, strimmer, lawn rake, lawn spreader, and lawn mower all for hire at a nominal charge.
Membership of BAGA costs only £1 per year and this also entitles you to a 10% discount off selected purchases from Four Winds Nursery at Sharnford.
